It Will be Harder to Email People

Email’s very open. Once you’ve got someone’s address, it’s easy to send them an email.

That’s translating to a lot of problems. Easy to be sent spam, viruses, etc. Much investment goes into helping recipients filtering out what’s bad. As a result, we’re about to start making it harder to send email to someone. The sort of thing we’ll see are:

  • Sender-side processes that check whether a sender is behaving properly
  • Before we send email to someone we don’t know, or barely know, we’ll have to fill in a form in which we apply for permission to contact the person, and then wait for their permission

With thanks to Trend’s Howard Price and MX Logic’s Scott Chasin for their stimulating conversation and ideas
