Good Idea for Lost Mobile Phone Management

When a mobile phone is lost or stolen, you need to be able to remotely and easily wipe off sensitive information, and preferably lock the phone.

Synchronica offers mobile device management technology. Its remote wipe-and-lock has a very nice feature we've just learned about. The company call it the "scream" feature. If someone steals your device, you call your help desk. They issue a standard remote wipe-and-lock command. Plus it causes the device to emit a loud annoying sound. This isn't just a gimmick. The thief might still be close to you, say in a restaurant, and you might be able to identify the person.

The ability to remotely wipe information on a lost or stolen phone is great, but the ability to restore your contacts to your new phone (if you lost your phone, damaged it or got it robbed) is also a great service and probably concerns more people than the ability to wipe numbers (unless you are in business of course)

There are a few services out there offering backup services, but I found a very interesting one, by an Irish Tehcnology company called SIMchronise, which works very nicely over gprs (so no cables, bluetooth or extra devices…), cna be used from pretty much anywhere in the world and which is free for now. It’s called

It backs up contacts and calendar, but I read that they are planning to introduce more features in the near future such as pictures and text messages.
