ActiveSync Pricing a Secret, Sort Of

A year ago, vendors told us that Microsoft was making ActiveSync very inexpensive. The idea being to get Windows Mobile supported on very many devices, and working nicely with Outlook.

The situation today seems to be that:

  • The client software is very inexpensive.
  • The server side is pricey. Standard pricing is a per-user license fee, and the initial payment is the greater of $100,000 or the first year's royalties.

More information here.

Curiously, one of our clients told us he had to sign a nondisclosure agreement with Microsoft before the fee details would be disclosed.
