Microsoft’s Jeff Raikes to Retire

Microsoft’s Jeff Raikes will retire effective September 2008. He will be replaced as president of Microsoft Business Division by Stephen Elop, former chief operating officer at Juniper Networks.

Microsoft Business Division currently includes responsibility for Windows, Exchange, Online, Systems Center, Unified Communications, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and developer solutions.

Jeff leaves big shoes to fill. Editor David Ferris knew him when Microsoft had 20 employees. He was skinnier then, and modestly shod. We wish him all the best.

People like Jeff motivate the rest of us. I first met Jeff when Microsoft had 20 employees. He was a bit lanky then, perhaps even a little diffident. I still have his card from those day, Somewhere, somewhere in one of my box files, the minutiae of days gone by.
