Email Archiving Vendors to Serve 30 Million Users in 2006

February 8, 2006 San Francisco, Calif. - The market for email archiving appliances and services will grow to nearly US$1 billion this year, according to a new report by Ferris Research, a San Francisco-based research and consulting firm.

The report, The Email Archiving Market, 2006-2010, finds that:

  • The overall market for email archiving products and services in 2006 will total nearly $1 billion and consist of 30 million users. Revenue will increase by approximately 30 percent in the next five years.
  • Email archiving customers currently prefer software and appliances to services offered by hosted providers by a ratio of four to one.
  • Email security, and particularly enterprise content management (ECM), is encroaching on the email archiving market.

"Adoption of email archiving solutions is largely driven by regulatory compliance requirements, and demand comes mainly from heavily regulated countries with robust economies," says Ferris Research analyst David Via. "We expect future demand for archiving will come from the roughly 600 million business email users worldwide, but we don't see a growing market for consumer services."

The report also covers the growing economic opportunity for email archiving vendors, and the end user requirements that must be met for vendors to close sales.
