Exchange 2007 and Messaging Information Management

In the past, IT has focused almost exclusively on service management. The top priorities of messaging managers are typically:

  • Ensuring performance and availability
  • Measuring system health
  • Sticking to service level agreements

The ever-increasing interest in compliance has added a new focus on information management. Optimizing Exchange infrastructures to facilitate search, accessibility, security, and compliance control of the data stored in the various email "buckets" has become just as important as ensuring that Exchange is performing well.

Exchange 2007 introduces new features that help companies seeking to gain control over messaging data in-flight and at-rest in the organization. Key features include cross-mailbox search, transport rules, message classifications, and managed folders.

Exchange administrators and IT managers need to start also thinking in terms of information management when it comes to managing their messaging infrastructures.
