IBM Launches Family of Unified Communications and Collaboration Software

IBM announced the Lotus Sametime Family, its unified communication and collaboration solutions. Sametime “Unified Telephony” will make it possible to manage communications across multiple business telephone systems and access them through multiple applications. Sametime Entry will include IM capabilities, presence awareness, spell check capabilities, emoticon support, chat history functionality and contact list management features. Sametime Standard will include on premise web conferencing; presence, IM and location awareness; and the ability to add plugins and mashups as well as communicate with users on supported public IM networks. Sametime Advanced will include persistent group chat and a suite of broadcast community tools. Standard available 4Q2007, Entry and Advanced 1H2008, and “Unified Telephony” mid 2008.
