MIME Standard Defined

By about 1994, the internet-based email standards had become established.

In 1996, the MIME standard was added to the existing internet standards POP, IMAP, and SMTP. MIME is a major enhancement, and mainly provides for rich textual content (not just simple text) and file attachments.--David Ferris
